Interview with William C. Everitt concerning his experiences as owner and operator of Brook-Mays Music Company and C. & S. Music Company in Dallas, Texas. Everitt discusses his family background, the Depression in Comanche, Texas, his experiences playing trombone with North Texas State's Aces of Collegeland band, his duty as a radar technician and infantryman during World War II, and his experiences in postwar Austria. He also talks about teaching music in Dallas public schools, managing the band department of Brook-Mays Music Company, his election as President of the company in 1954, the history of Brook-Mays, his interest in C. & S. Music Company in Fort Worth in 1960, and the buyout of the company in 1974. Everitt shares his thoughts on the locations of Brook-Mays and C. & S. Music stores, the growth of the market, his employment of a band clinician, the increase in the price of musical instruments, personnel requirements for the music stores, competition in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, as well as his views on government regulations, his advertising approach, service to customers and community, and the development of the music listening test.
